As you may be aware, we recently sent out an Internet link to survey parents and guardians regarding quality and quantity of homework currently set at Goxhill. We would like to share some of the findings with you and outline our decision regarding the setting of homework from this point forward.
With this in mind, we have decided on the following changes:
Children should read at least four times a week.
Children should access the wide range of online resources which the school has invested in, such as IDL Cloud, Ixl.com, Bug Club reading, TT Rock Stars (KS2) and Studyzone (KS2), rising stars maths (Y6).
Teachers may decide to give optional homework in relation to lessons such as an extension sheet which they didn't get time to complete in class.
There is no requirement they do this or bring it back into school (answer sheets will be provided to accompany this optional homework if appropriate so that it can be checked through with parents).
If children have been selected for IDL cloud via a personal letter to parents, this should take president, along with a child’s reading over other ICT based applications. Bug club can count towards the children’s reading if it is signed in their reading records, however, we are keen that this does not fully replace paper books and that we encourage a balance between the two.
Children that do not have access to the internet at home, will be provided the opportunity to access these sites at school through APPs clubs which we are hoping to set up. Please let us know if this is the case for your child.
